History and Highlights
P.S. Krøyer: Det Hirschsprungske familiebillede, 1881, Den Hirschsprungske Samling
The Hirschsprung Collection was founded by art collectors Pauline and Heinrich Hirschsprung, who ran a successful tobacco business in Copenhagen. The museum was purpose-built to house their collection, which traces a century of Danish art across the 19th century, and opened to the public in 1911.
This guided tour explores the story behind the museum. Learn about the Hirschsprung family and their close friendship with the artist P.S. Krøyer, and discover some of the collection’s greatest highlights by artists including C.W. Eckersberg, Anna Ancher and Vilhelm Hammershøi.
