A closer look at art

We welcome preschool groups, primary and secondary school classes to enjoy a unique encounter with Danish art in the museum’s welcoming surroundings. Admission is free for all school groups and their teachers.

You can explore the museum independently or book an educational programme that allows students to engage closely with the artworks, find inspiration and learn more about Danish art throughout the 19th century.

My pupils were completely absorbed in what was happening. The educator did an excellent job, and there was a good balance between storytelling, where the pupils listened, and interaction, where they were encouraged to share their own observations. It was also impressive how much they could remember when we discussed the session about a week after our visit.”

Lower-secondary teacher at Pilegård School for the past 20 years
“I have taught the Modern Breakthrough as part of a cross-curricular programme alongside the Industrial Revolution in history. The two subjects complemented each other extremely well, and the visit to The Hirschsprung Collection supported this perfectly.

The museum is certainly worth a visit and provides an excellent starting point for the Year 9 oral examination in Danish.”

About our learning programmes

We offer dialogue-based learning programmes for all age groups, exploring subjects such as the Danish Golden Age, Romanticism and the Modern Breakthrough. Through discussion and creative activities, we encourage students to engage actively with the artworks and connect historical art with their own lives and the world today.
